Treaty of Versailles- Officially ended World War I. Required Germany to accept full responsibility for the war. Germany gave up money and territory to other European countries.
Armistice- A temporary stopping of fighting; truce.
Reparations- Payments for damages done to someone or some country. In World War I, it was payments for war damages, made by the defeated power(Germany) to the winning side (Allied powers).
Annexed- To take over territory and incorporate it into another political entity, e.g. a country or state\
Great Depression- A global economic downturn that started in 1929. It began in the United States and then spread through Europe. It lasted ten years (1929-1939)
Inflation- When prices of goods rise quickly and peoples ability to buy them decreases.
Nazism/Nazi Party- The fascist party of Adolph Hitler that came to power in 1933. The group blamed Germany's problems on Communists and Jewish people.
Anti-Semitism- Anti- Jewish people and culture.
Communism- the Marxist-Leninist version of a classless society in which capitalism is overthrown by a working-class revolution that gives ownership and control of wealth and property to the state

Ideology- Is a group of ideas or theories that guides individuals, social movements, or groups. Ideologies discussed: Those on the political spectrum, weltpolitik, Nazism, fascism, Communism.

ALSO... Check out some of the cool things we are doing in class. Kids are creating their own rubric for our next writing assignment: The Personal Narrative Paper.. In the videos below, the kids were able to read through sixth graders writing from Oregon. We went over some aspects of what was good about the papers and what was not so good.. Many of the children had their own opinions but were able to point out and score the papers based on criteria the students set. Some areas they looked at were Neatness, Grammar, Creativity, and Organization. - Directions sent home for our Make Your Own Culture project. (Social Studies Classes) A majority will be done in classes. The due date is tentatively Monday August 11. Kids will get a scoring rubric tomorrow.. Please try to bring in a poster board. These usually cost no more than a dollar and were as low as 35 cents at Walmart. They will be used to present their culture.
- Friendly Reminder: Fees for books and agendas should be settled by Friday. The cost for agendas is $6 and the cost for workbooks (ELA and Math) is $27.

- Students took a grammar pre-assessment in ELA. This is not graded. Kids also were to bring in a list of their five favorite books. We will make an interest inventory for the kids and this will inform some of the choices they will have
when we start book clubs (literature circles).

8/11/2014- Book Club lists will be sent home today. Please look over the list and select 5 books that you are interested in and discuss them with your parents. I will be sending a form home tomorrow regarding our book club policy (2 weeks to get a book) and other details regarding the children's book clubs.
- Social Studies projects were turned in today. Their final grades will be posted in my grade book by EOW or sooner. Because we are not yet online via Synergy to input grades and have them to the parent portal, I will inform the students of their grades. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
