6th Grade Reading Project
50 book campaign is our 6th grade goal for increasing the love and skill of reading to new heights. On this page you will find helpful information about our reading goal, updates, and helpful resources. I will also add a "Fun Box" at the bottom and change the content from time to time. Students can choose to participate in the activity for their pure enjoyment, in hopes that it will encourage them to check in on this page more frequently and motivate them to take part in reaching our 50 book goal!
Book Clubs:
Book clubs or literature circles as they are also known, will be a standard practice over the school year. Some classroom choose to focus on literature by having an entire class study and learn from one text. While this will occur at some points in the year, using a literature circle is a means to maximize learning through literature. and caters to specific needs that are not always met with a one-size fits all approach. As students and parents, you will be responsible for buying several books throughout the year to use in literature circles. I will provide more information and materials during our literature circle times. I will also give a two-week notice to buy any book needed for class. When we begin literature circles, you will have the opportunity to work with different students and do more project based learning to supplement your readings. When the time comes, I will provide a list of acceptable books based on reading level, genre, and grade level appropriateness. Young adult literature is far different from things that are read in elementary school. I will address this further during our open-house with parents and the children. As usual, if you have any questions regarding the books you will be reading or if your parent has a particular objection, I will be open to your needs and providing an alternate assignment in lieu of such objections. I do however require that your objections or questions be brought forth when we begin a new book. Students and parents are responsible for previewing the book before an assignment is given. Accommodations can not be met when the book is almost finished. PARENTS AND STUDENTS: You are given TWO WEEKS NOTICE before starting a new book. Please do not ask your parents at the last second!!! There should be little to no reason for not having your book in class. The Beginning of the Year Reading Project! As it has been introduced today, all 6th graders are participating in a goal of reading 50 books through the year. I realize this goal is high but so are my expectations. I will provide some more rules later. Here is the template for finishing a book. You will need to fill this out and turn it into me. I will review this before awarding points. Do your best work! Any sloppy work or lazy writing will not get credit! I plan on introducing more during our Parent's Night on how I plan on using our project and how you and your parents will benefit throughout the year. Look for more details this week.

To continue with our exploration into poetry, listen to the poem above which everyone will know before the year is over. Put on your headphones and say it loud if you are feeling bolder. Just remember that poetry is something you can create and not have to look over your shoulder!
